What Type of Assets May be Donated?

Cash
You may make a cash gift to the School of Veterinary Medicine by check or credit card using our Gift Contribution Form. Please make checks payable to "LSU Foundation" and include written instructions about how you would like your gift used. Monies from charity horses shows, auctions, fundraising dinners/parties, etc. can be donated by an individual or an organization.

Corporate Matching Gifts
Your or your spouse's employer may offer matching gifts to charitable organizations such as the School of Veterinary Medicine. Such programs multiply the value of your donation. Ask your Department of Human Resources for a matching gift form and include it with your gift.

Securities
Securities such as stocks, bonds, and certificates of deposit make great gifts. The donation of appreciated securities provides a twofold benefit to the donor. You receive a charitable tax deduction for the full fair market value of the security while avoiding capital gains taxes on the appreciated assets. Securities may be transferred electronically.

Property
The School of Veterinary Medicine accepts donations of property such as real estate, equipment, artwork, horses, stallion services, historic documents, and vehicles. As with donation of appreciated securities, the donation of appreciated property provides dual tax benefits to the donor. All property valued at more than $5,000 should be appraised by an independent expert prior to donation to determine the value of the gift for tax purposes.
