What Kind of Gift Do You Want to Give?
Annual Gifts
An annual or current gift may be designated for use by the School of Veterinary Medicine where the need is greatest (unrestricted) or may be designated for a specific program or purpose by the donor (restricted). The gift is generally used in the year it is received.
Endowed Gifts
An endowed gift is a permanent gift. The principal is invested and returns annual interest. Part of the annual interest is reinvested to increase the principal, and part is used for the purpose intended (such as a scholarship or professorship). Endowed funds are usually named for the benefactor or for a designated honoree.
Estate Gifts
An estate gift or bequest is provided through a will or living trust. Upon the donor's passing, the gift goes to the School of Veterinary Medicine for the intended purpose. Donors who choose to do so may notify the School of Veterinary Medicine that an estate gift has been planned. These donors are then recognized as members of our "Fellowship for the Future." Planned Gifts
A planned gift (such as a charitable trust) provides a stream of income for the donor or donor's beneficiary during their lifetime with the intention that the charitable remainder goes to the School of Veterinary Medicine upon the donor's or beneficiary's passing. Charitable trusts bestow significant tax savings to the donor and his/her beneficiaries while providing a guaranteed stream of income. For more information, please click here.
Life Insurance
You may designate the School of Veterinary Medicine as the owner and beneficiary of a life insurance policy. Ongoing premiums paid on a gifted life insurance policy also qualify for charitable deductions.
Naming Opportunities
Your gift may be used to honor or memorialize a beloved horse, family member, or friend. Naming opportunities exist for endowed gifts such as scholarships, professorships, and chairs. Building projects such as the Equine Intensive Care Unit, Equine Isolation Unit, Equine Reproduction Center and the Equine Lameness and Performance Evalaution Center offer a wide variety of naming opportunities.
